Terrmel Sledge was not likely too pleased when he heard the San Diego Padres were demoting him. However, it really should not have come as too much of a surprise. The player had been playing poorly. He had only a .160 average and had missed out on more than a few major plays, leaving the team little choice but to replace him. Terrmel Sledge was placed onto the AAA Portland team this week. Sledge had not played for the Padres very long. He was only acquired in early January in a group of six players who were traded. To replace Terrmel Sledge, the Padres signed Jon Adkins who played for the Beavers. Jon Adkins had a great record with the Beavers and the San Diego Padres are hoping he would bring some of his magic to their team as well. Although demotion is something all MLB players fear, nothing says that if they are demoted that they cannot play in the majors again in the future. Many players take their demotion time to prove once again what they can do and show the major league teams they are worthy of another chance. Whether or not Terrmel Sledge will do that, is still undetermined at this point. |
