Are There Effective Vitamins for Andropause?

Author: Dan Ho

If you are thinking of buying vitamins for andropause or an andropause herbal remedy, you will find many different products that claim to be effective. Some may be and some may not. Opinions vary, probably because symptoms vary.

Vitamins for andropause related symptoms should include beta-carotene (Vitamin A), which is essential for normal function of the reproductive organs, and Vitamin E, which improves circulation and protects cells throughout the body from the effects of aging.

The minerals magnesium and selenium are also important in many cellular processes. A good multi-vitamin should contain all of these and more, but check the label.

Andropause herbal remedies are too numerous to list. Most are known aphrodisiacs. Some make claims that are not supported by any clinical studies.

One herb, however, called tribulus terrestris may be promising by addressing more of your concerns than any of the others.

First used by athletes to enhance performance, some clinical research has been done in Bulgaria indicating that tribulus can increase testosterone levels, libido, energy levels, muscularity and strength.

Moreover, there are no known side effects or health risks of tribulus terrestris. For more information about herbs, you may need to contact an herbalist or a physician of natural medicine.

DHEA and melatonin are sometimes listed as vitamins for andropause even though they are not vitamins at all. They are better classified as andropause herbal remedies even though they are not technically herbs either.

DHEA and melatonin are hormones, but are sold over the counter as of this writing because they are classified as dietary supplements. Many doctors say these should be used with caution or not at all and may pose certain health risks.

On the other hand, many thousands of people successful use DHEA and melatonin, so you'll have to carefully consider both sides of the issue.

Vitamins, herbs and other dietary supplements are not regulated by the Food and Drug Administration. This means that manufacturers are not required to print warning labels and no stringent testing is required before a supplement can be sold. This does not mean that taking vitamins for andropause related symptoms or choosing an andropause herbal remedy is not a good idea.

It just means that you have to be careful.
