Everything You Ever Wanted To Know About Relocating

Author: Ross Bainbridge

Relocating is the act of moving residence from one place to another. Individuals, families and even businesses relocate for varied reasons. People move to better homes and seek better neighborhoods. Some desire to start over a whole new life, while others search for better economic opportunities. Businesses also relocate to overcome a shortage of skills or gain greater tax benefits.

U. S. Census Bureau estimates show that nearly 43 million people in the United States move every year. This accounts for roughly 16 percent of the population. 56 percent of the 43 million move within the same county, while 19 percent move between states. Research shows that young adults were more likely to move than older people. Single and divorced people were more inclined to relocate than those who are widowed.

Within the United States, white non-Hispanics had the lowest moving rate at 19 percent. Blacks that relocate constitute 19 percent, while 20 percent of Asians and Hispanics were likely to relocate.

The reasons for moving differ according to age, race, social and economic status. People living in rented units have more reason to relocate compared to homeowners and comprise around 52 percent of movers in the United States. A change in family status is also a primary motivating factor. About 25% of people in the United States relocate due to family related reasons like marriage or family expansion. 31% seek better economic opportunities and move for work related reasons.

Education is an important factor in the decision to move. Many seek higher education, the motivating factor behind better employment opportunities. The greater an individual's level of education, the greater would be the likelihood of moving for work-related reasons.

Relocation can be an exciting time for many. The mystery of a new environment and the prospects of a better life head can trigger off a new lease of life.
