Boston's Big Dig Digs Deeper into Devastating Disrepair

Author: Lance Winslow

Boston's Big Dig has seen better days and many feel that it is just in matter of time before the $16 billion project is closed for good because it is deemed unsafe. The head of engineering for the Big Dig has resigned and there will be other bureaucratic and political fallout from all of this.

Meanwhile one motorist has already been killed as times of steel from the ceiling fell onto her car killing her. Originally we heard that this was a one-time incident and a freak accident, but later in that week we heard about 78 bolts, which were also questionable, the same types of bolts, which failed and ended up killing the lady in her car. Upon further investigation weeks later we find out that there are thousands of such bolts, which either have been sheared or need to be checked, because things don't look right.

Additionally there are other titles in the United States now being looked at and many fear that the Big Dig may not be alone. Nevertheless, the average commute time without the Big Dig in Boston can end up to be more than four hours and this makes it impossible if you work or live downtown.

It is causing chaos and controversy in large corporations throughout the city and the bottlenecks and traffic jams are intense. Will the Big Dig continue to be in the state of disrepair? Please consider all this in 2006.
