The Whine Club - Are You a Member

Author: Diane Drayer

When I was younger I was a master at making excuses for myself and my behavior. It was my out for being a quitter and failing at business or other life issues. I discovered it was much easier to fail than succeed. Succeeding took work and meant I had to be willing to step out of that comfort zone everyone talks about. I wanted success, but not bad enough at the time to do anything about it but whine. So whine I did and to my embarrassment, I got pretty good at it!

Ive recapped some of my favorite whines for you here. Perhaps you are familiar with some of them or have a few of your own to add:

I cant.
I would, but.
If it hadnt been for her/him.
I tried, but it just wasnt for me.
I just dont have time.
Ill start next week.
My husband doesnt want me to.
I dont have the money.
After the summer and the kids go back to school, Ill get started.
Sorry, I missed the call. The kids just wouldnt settle down. (Actually, I was watching my favorite TV show).

I am sure you have heard these lines and maybe tried a few yourselves. How did I break the cycle and how can you? Realize that success is work, uncomfortable at times and perseverance does pay off. If you want a better life, you have to change. The key being younot your sponsor, husband, kids, etc. Actually, I am sure you are aware that all this negative feedback we share with ourselves isnt very comfortable either.

If you truly want success, you will find a way to make it happen. No more whining and making excuses. Find what works for you! Stick with it even when times seem bleak and you are ready to give up. All growth is not straight upthere will be ups and downs. Consider it a learning experience and be willing to invest in your business with time, money and education.

Will you find success overnight? No. I wish I could tell you it was that easy. I can tell you my life has improved greatly now that I quit making excuses for myself and so will yours. And you know what else I discovered? It feels better to no longer be a member of the Whine Club.
