The headline of the scientific story reads Mint Pain-Killer Takes Leaf out of Ancient Medical Texts

Disclaimer: the writer is not a fan of alternative-medicines which are often the modern name for Cancer Quacks of the 19th Century. Still, we suggest an open mind to evaluate scientific research.

A legitimate scientific journal called Current Biology published the research by Dr. Rory Mitchell and Professor Susan Fleetwood-Walker, of the University of Edinburgh, on August 22, 2006 about chronic-pain relief.

The use of cooling chemicals with Mint Oil properties, applied to the skin, produces a chronic pain-killing effect for suffers of arthritis and nerve damage.

The Rest of the Story

These researchers got their idea from Hippocrates, the ancient Greek physician practicing about 500 B.C., and Chinese medicine of two millennia ago. The ancients did not have antibiotics or psychiatrists, and had to improvise.

The Greek physicians healed their patients with cool water and ice applies to the skin. They wrote that chronic pain was extinguished by these cooling applications, and specifically recommended this procedure for sprain, joint-pain and inflammation.

Chinese physicians got paid for prolonging and maintaining the health of their patients, not for curing illness. They prescribed Mint Oil for their chronically pained patients; it was applied topically to alleviate symptoms of arthritis, rheumatism, and nerve damage picture Christopher Reeves.

This Research produced a discovery of a Receptor that spiked the pain-signal to the brain. TRPMS is the protein-receptor activated by cooling chemicals or temperature; it interferes with chronic-pain by inhibiting the pain message from the local area to the brain.

Unless you have experienced chronic-pain that is unrelenting, 24/7, such as rheumatism, arthritis or nerve damage, you will not sing-and-dance about this discovery. You should.

In 50% of the chronic-pain diagnoses, prescriptions for pain relief does not work or have deleterious side effects that are worse than the original pain. Mint oil and its synthesized derivatives will not have these side effects because they are applied to the skin, not taken by pill or injection. This avoids entering the bloodstream and causing antagonistic affects.

Afterthought

Dont laugh in cases where Preparation H does not relieve the pain and itching of hemorrhoids we have heard the recommendation to insert an ice cube into the nether region of discomfort.

We do not suggest medical treatments, all we know is speed reading if that however, those who have used this method swear by (not at), its efficacy.

Draw your own conclusions based on the aforementioned research by the specialists at the University of Edinburgh. We do know for a certainty that you can 3x your reading speed and 2x your memory and read-and-remember three books, articles and reports in the time others can hardly finish one. Chronic pain - is up for grabs.

Snap Judgments Decide a Faces Character

Dr. Alex Todorov, Princeton University, reports in Psychological Science, July, 2006, that we are programmed (hardwired), to decide if we trust or like someone in one-tenth of a second. It is instinctual to make our decision based on appearance, not wait for more information.

Our reasoning mind cannot react fast enough to influence our instant decision. Forget thinking and analysis, its is our Amygdala (Limbic System), that reacts to faces. Specifically our brain reacts to symmetry (sameness), of both sides of the face we see, and proportion, the eyes and mouth.

How does this affect you?

We humans do not use our prefrontal cortex to think about and analyze your words and proposition, we decide if you are trustworthy and likeable instantaneously. The decision as to your competence is not weighed on your experience and knowledge, but on your initial appearance.

What can we do about losing a competitive advantage because we do not look like Tom Cruise?

A lot. When meeting someone for the first-time in business or relationships, look directly into their eyes to create a sense of trust. It does not make you a phony to have a Duchenne smile (eyes and mouth), on your face. It makes you likeable.

We strongly suggest you concentrate on exchanging a firm handshake with men, a gentler one with women. People abhor the dead-fish handshake introduction. Body Language

Your facial expression, posture, and hand gestures, help create your image. Be aware that logic aint got nothing to do with it; our brain requires instant decisions to prepare for Fight-or-Flight. We have been programmed that way for millions of years.

You can change their mind, but it requires knowing the rules of game. The sound of your voice alone can cause a likeability or rejection decision. And we are totally unaware that we have decided for or against - based solely on appearance.

Is it worth knowing how fragile our likelihood of success may be? It hangs from the thread of knowledge. Knowing we are not as rational and calculating as we believe, and neither is anyone else, gives us a competitive advantage over those who live in ignorance.

It is emotion that rules, not reason; love it or leave it.

See ya,
